Psychotherapy
Marcie Dimenstein, LCSW
As we age we have many challenges and transitions which affect us – some positive and some negative.
What we do with these transitions are the key to finding joy in our life. Most of the time we are completely capable of navigating these stressors with our own personal resources. Sometimes a little professional support is required. We need someone trustworthy, who will listen attentively without judgment or reproach, and reflect what they hear with honestly and with care, who will stay steady when we are mired in the eddies of our emotions, and help us make sense of our histories and lives. Sometimes we need someone to bear witness to our suffering, our sorrow and our longing, to feel the nuance and mystery of who we are and have become, and to help forge the path forward.
My various skills, honed over 30 years of training and practice, are an asset. I can provide the support that you need.
Therapy sessions will be held in Hamden and Milford, CT. Currently, due to Covid-19, visits are held through a secure HIPPA Compliant video conference call. Weather dependent outdoor visits may be arranged in Hamden.
How do you know when to seek psychotherapy?
The American Psychological Association suggests considering therapy when something causes distress or interferes in some part of your life, particularly when:
· Do you or someone close to you spend some amount of time every week thinking about the problem?
· Is the problem embarrassing, to the point that you want to hide from others?
· Over the past few months, has the problem reduced your quality of life?
· Are you rearranging your lifestyle to accommodate the problem?
· Marcie Dimenstein would add that therapy can help you through transitions of life whether due to traditional life changes or through the very normal life phases.
