Suicide is a Growing Problem Among those 65 and up - Particularly with Guns

I was recently interviewed by a very thoughtful reporter of the New Haven Register, Ed Stannard. In CT there is concern about the older population killing themselves with a gun. The numbers don’t lie - the data shows that primarily White males up to age 97 have shot themselves and and died.

What’s the take home from the article? Elders are at risk of suicide. They can kill themselves, but it will be easier if they have a gun. If they are depressed, services are available - even in the middle of the pandemic. No one should be alone, without support. Contact me if you want assistance at marcie@elderpathways.com.

“Suicide rates are highest among the elderly, with more than 300 taking their life with a gun in the last decade in Connecticut”
